Leyton Orient travel to Northampton Town on Saturday for their third match of pre-season (3.00pm kick-off). Last season Northampton Town suffered a hangover from their play-off disappointment of 2012/13. After spending much of 2013/14 in the bottom two the Cobblers managed to avoid relegation, winning their last two games to lift themselves up to 21st place, three points above relegated Bristol Rovers.
Chris Wilder took charge at the end of January and after seeing his side narrowly avoid relegation, he has been working to build a stronger side for the coming season. Marc Richards, John-Joe O’Toole and Gregor Robertson have been added to the squad, with Daniel Alfei and Kaid Mohamed joining on loan from Swansea and Port Vale respectively. The Cobblers are unbeaten so far during their pre-season programme. They began their preparations for the the new season by recording a dominant 9-0 victory over Sileby Rangers, they then managed 1-1 draws against Alloa Athletic and Sheffield United. Last time-out the drew 0-0 with Cogenhoe United.
The two sides last met in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in December 2012 at Sixfields Stadium. The O’s progressed to the Southern-section Semi-final thanks to a second half brace from David Mooney and a Michael Symes penalty.
The Leyton Orient squad have spent the week at a training camp in Northumberland. The trip included a friendly against Gateshead on Wednesday which ended in a goalless draw. Last Friday night the O’s defeated Dartford 3-2.
Scott Cuthbert and Scott Kashket missed the match in mid-week due to injury, therefore both could be missing again on Saturday. Nathan Clarke returned to action against the Heed following a knee injury and he looks set to continue his recovery against Northampton. Both Shane Lowry and Elliot Omozusi picked up knocks, but they are expected to be available for the match against Northampton. Trialist Ayo Okusun could be given another opportunity to impress.
