David Mooney has joined Southend United following the expiration of his contract with Leyton Orient. The 30 year-old striker has agreed a two-year stay at Roots Hall.
The Irish striker joined the O’s in July 2011 but he struggled for form during his first season with the club as he managed just eight goals in 42 games.
His record improved in 2012/13 as the Irishman bagged 13 goals in 42 games.
Mooney was a key part of Orient’s improvement in 2013/14 as he contributed 21 goals in 48 appearances during the campaign which culminated in the play-off final. He became the first Orient striker to break the 20 goal mark since 1977/78 when Peter Kitchen managed that total.
Last season was far less successful for the club as well as Mooney, who scored nine goals in 38 games.
In total Mooney made 170 appearances in an Orient shirt and accumulated 51 goals for the O’s during his four seasons in E10.
