Leyton Orient begin their preparations for the new 2015/16 season tonight as they make the trip to Cressing Road to face Vanarama National League side Braintree Town.
The Iron finished in 14th place in the Conference Premier last season, winning 59 points from 46 games.
Ian Hendon will take charge of the O’s for the first time and travelling fans are likely to see new signings Sean Clohessy, Sammy Moore, Blair Turgott, Paul McCallum and Ollie Palmer. Hendon plans to take a 22-man squad to Braintree with a view to fielding two different teams in each half.
It is likely that Hendon will include young players such as Sam Ling, Scott Kashket and Sandro Semedo possibly along with some trialists such as 20 year-old left back Frazer Shaw and former Southend midfielder Alex Woodyard.
The O’s will of course be without Jobi McAnuff as the 33 year-old is currently on international duty with Jamaica at the Gold Cup.
Orient travelled to Braintree for a pre-season friendly in July 2011. The O’s won by three goals to one thanks to a goal from Jonathan Tehoue and a second-half brace from trialist Kieran Djilali. Braintree’s goal came early on from the penalty spot after Jimmy Smith had handled the ball in the penalty area and as a result he was sent off. Braintree were also reduced to ten men and conceded a penalty but Dean Cox missed from the spot.
