Christian began his career with Norwich City as part of the Canaries’ youth academy. In 2014, he moved to Crystal Palace. After impressing in the Eagles’ youth team, Scales signed his first pro-contract in 2015.
Scales spent the first-half of the 2015/16 season on loan at Crawley Town. His senior debut came against Cambridge United in August 2015 and he went on to make seven more League Two appearances for the Red Devils, as well as featuring in an FA Cup tie against Luton Town.
Christian returned to Crystal Palace mid-way through the 2015/16 campaign but was released by the club at the end of the season.
In the summer of 2016, Scales had a trial with Austrian second division side FC Liefering, but he failed to secure a contract with the club.
In February 2017, National League South side Whitehawk signed Scales. He made six appearances for the Hawks during the second-half of last season as they finished 17th in the League.
Christian becomes Orient’s sixth signing of the summer so far, and he looks set to be competing with fellow new arrival Joe Widdowson for a starting spot at left-back during the coming season.
