Omozusi Signs A New One-Year Contract

Elliot Omozusi has signed a new contract that will keep him at Brisbane Road until June 2014. Omozusi returned to the club in January and he went on to make 6 appearances, before his season was curtailed by the shoulder injury that he sustained against Bury at the start of April. The 24 year-old defender made just one start this season and that came in the 2-1 defeat at Scunthorpe.

Omozusi is currently in his second spell with the O’s, having originally joined in January 2010 following his release from Fulham. He has made 68 appearances in an Orient shirt to date.

Cuthbert Agrees New Contract

Scott Cuthbert has agreed a new two-year contract with Leyton Orient. The 25 year-old defender’s previous contract was set to expire this summer, but Russell Slade has moved quickly to secure a deal to keep Cuthbert at the club until June 2016. At the start of this season the Scottish centre back suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury that he picked up in the previous campaign. His participation this season was also curtailed after he fractured a metatarsal against Preston in March. Despite these injury problems, Cuthbert still managed to make a significant contribution, playing 25 games this term. He also showed his versatility by performing well at right back as well as operating in his more natural position in the centre of defence.

Cuthbert joined the O’s from Swindon in June 2011 and to date he has made 62 appearances, scoring one goal. In his first season with the club he was voted Leyton Orient Player of the Year as well as winning  Total Orient Player of the Year.

Leyton Orient ended the 2012/13 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Oldham. Jimmy Smith opened the scoring after ten minutes with a fine finish from the edge of the area which capped off a neat attacking move from the O’s. The hosts went in at the break with the lead, but in the first half there had been little to separate the two sides. Just after the restart, Kirk Millar brought the Latics level by taking advantage of some poor defending from the O’s. Both sides sought to end the season on a high but neither could find a way through. Dean Cox struck the post but as the match had no real significance the match petered out.

Match Preview: Coventry City v Leyton Orient – npower League One

Leyton Orient are still clinging on to slim hopes of making the playoffs this season, but the chances of that happening are even less likely after results in mid-week did not go in Orient’s favour.
